Thailand is one of the most convenient destinations for independent travel: warm sea year-round, well-developed tourist infrastructure, diverse regions, street food, tropical islands, and rich culture. It’s easy to combine beach holidays, nature, gastronomy, and city routes here.
Where it is and how it’s arranged
Thailand is located in Southeast Asia and consists of the mainland (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Pattaya, Hua Hin) and numerous islands in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand (Phuket, Krabi, Samui, Phangan, Tao, and more).
Different regions mean different seasons and logistics, so it’s important to understand in advance where exactly you want to go: the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand follow different weather patterns.
When to go
High season (November–March): comfortable temperatures, calm sea, fewer rains.
Hot season (April–June): very warm and humid, but fewer people.
Rainy season (July–October): short downpours, lush greenery, good prices; the sea can be wavy (especially in Phuket and Krabi).
Important: On Samui, Phangan, and Tao the season is different — peak rains are in November–December, and good weather lasts from February to August.
Entry and documents
A passport with sufficient validity.
For many countries — visa-free entry or visa on arrival. Check current rules for your nationality.
Insurance is mandatory — medical care for tourists is expensive.

Main airports:
Bangkok (BKK/Suvarnabhumi, DMK/Don Mueang)
